"I think both options are fine," Zack says.

"Then wake me when my turn comes." says Michael.

And rolling himself in his cloak, he goes to sleep.

The next day, the group once again waits for the Phantom Steeds to be summoned, and then they continue onward, this time through a fifty-foot-wide pass between two cliff faces that stretch upwards into the snowy mists above.*

I don't think any decision was made.
Michael is probably sticking within reach of Zack and Hulgyr so he can buff them in a hurry.

Works for me.
As for spacing, Michael probably tries to keep everybody within 30 feet of him so one bless spell hits everybody.
But he's not interested in being militant about it.
