I did not see how often the lightning strikes except in the last part. I did see the part about two Hiroshima bombs and power the USA for 5 minutes if it could be captured and stored. I was wondering how often the sun would 'charge' the Earth to release a lightning blast of this size.

I actually didn't know that lightning was "that weak". I had often thought about the idea of lightning capture for power use, and thought the main problem was the actual capture and storage. Not that "lightning is actually so weak that its not worth doing".
