Wizards of the Coast and Mythusmage Publishing announced today that Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition will be based on the ARD (Alan's Reference Document). Said Ed Stark (high poobah at WotC), "The ARD's 500 pages (at 5 point monaco) contains every crunchy bit you'd ever want in a game, and then some. The six pages on glaive use alone gave us enough material for no less than eight adventures, two sourcebooks, and a daily calender."

One of the highlights of the new edition is expected to be the expanded Monster Manual. The dragon section alone will take up six 1,000 page volumes in 6 point monaco. With a 7th volume for the illustrations. According to a D&D 4e playtester who wished to remain anonymous, "The 28 pages on dragon scale evolution alone has added a lot to my own game. I've also been able to squelch many an argument just by reciting the rules on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degree burns."

Stark added, "He thinks that's neat, wait till he sees our first release about PC races." He gave no details, but rumour has it it will either be a 2 volume work on elves, or a 3 volume work on kobolds.

The new edition will come with its own bookshelf. Additional shelves will be made available for the expansions. The whole thing will sell for 12 easy monthly payments of $99.95.

In other news WotC denied rumors they will be opening specialty stores just to sell D&D 4e. Said a reliable source, "Nah, we're thinking shopping malls."
