D&D 5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Chapter 1

Erevan shouts at the woman 'run to the shelter! Keep the children safe, we'll meet you there!'

 

[Jimmy Disco T]

The woman nods at Erevan. "The keep... we were making for the keep when they attacked us. But I don't think we can make it on foot..." she says, putting her arm around the exhausted man and hauling him to his feet with difficulty. "Perhaps we could... use your cart...?" she asks.

[OOC: Rolen's up next, and don't forget there are still some sleeping kobolds to be disposed of as well as the one winged kobold grappling with the gnomes.]

[Rolen / Brother Dave has had to drop out of the game. Give me a little bit of time to decide the most elegant way to handle this and I'll write him out of the story, In the meantime, to keep things flowing, we'll skip Rolen's initiative for the moment]

The winged kobold gains the upper hand in the grapple, and manages to land a solid kick to James the gnome, who cries out in pain and releases his hold on the creature. It hisses at him, before noticing Miri and Renestrae with weapons drawn, ready to strike.

WIth a panicked yap, the kobold starts beating it's wings awkwardly and takes to the air. Shortly after, the creature flies away in the general direction of the keep in the distance, fleeing the fight.

RECAP:

Jena and James, the gnomes, both seem to have been injured by the flying kobolds.
The pony pulling the cart is panicking and seems about to break loose, tip the cart, or both.
There are some kobolds under the influence of a Sleep spell to be dealt with.
The woman, man and children are safe for the moment, but the man is clearly too exhausted to carry on much further on foot. The woman mentioned that they were heading for the keep.

'Come on, lets get these people to the keep.'

Robert Weaving

Seeing the Kobold fly away, Robert says : "Good riddance."

Hefting his quarterstaff, Robert walks over to the closest sleeping Kobold and takes a swing to finish it off.

 

[Jimmy Disco T]

There's a crunch of bone and a somewhat unpleasant gurgling noise as the sleeping kobold is slain by Robert. Blood trickles from it's mouth onto the ground.


In a sudden and surprising burst of energy, the woman you have rescued joins Robert, viciously impaling another of the sleeping kobolds with her spear without remorse or pity.


"The hells take you, you vicious little fiends!" she says loudly, with venom in her voice. Between two two of you, you easily finish them off without incident.

"It's done now," says Renestrae, glad she didn't have to do it herself. Killing in battle is one thing, but killing them while they're defenseless is something else entirely. And even though she knew it had to be done, she was thankful for not being the one to have done it. "Let's get to the keep before they regroup." She doesn't wait for an answer, but heads off silently in the direction of the keep.

Robert Weaving

Noticing what he thinks is disgust from Renestrae, he states : "Whatever your stance on the subject, keep in mind those beasts would have no second thoughts on doing the same to us."

Renestrae keeps walking. Whether she didn't hear or is ignoring him is anyone's guess.
