Explain to me how traps and hazards work.

I ran a trap-filled dungeon as part of an unexpected incident in KotS, and for some reason I suspect I'm getting it wrong somehow. Here's how I ran it:

  1. An area with a trap or hazard enters visibility range. Compare the Perception DC to detect the trap with the character's Passive Perception; if Passive Perception >= Perception DC, that character spots the trap.
  2. If a trap or hazard is in visibility range, a character can make an active Perception check and expend 1 minute/10 rounds to search a Close Burst 1 area.
  3. If you trigger the trap or hazard, you automatically realize that you've done so.

Anything I'm doing wrong?

Everything sounds right to me. Just remember that most traps have different Perception DCs for the various components (presence of a trap, trap triggers, trap control panel, etc.)
