do we want to spend any more time on setting the creature's abilities for the little man form, or can we just get on to naming it and calling it a day? :)

I think we've spent enough time on this. What's it been, four months?

Back to conversions... ;)

I'd say we do need to discuss the "old man" form just a *little* bit. I.e. we need to have a rough idea of what powers that form has that the bear form doesn't.

For example, we could do a poll like this:

- the old man form has sorceror powers
- the old man form has psionic powers
- the old man form has monk powers

No need to detail it any further than that.

See, kinda like that.

NOT! :p

I'd go for Sorceror myself (or "sorcerous powers" at least - doesn't have to be an actual Sor, but definitely someone with a reasonable selection of spells to choose from).

i agree with everything you said, 100%! :)

the poll will be very brief, and will end sometime tomorrow. if we come to a tie, do me a favor and keep track of whatever hits the big number first, because that's what's breaking the tie. ;)

so, what shall we name this guy? ideas?

A few words in different languages:

1. Eskimo (lots of different dialects):
star - uvlubiaq, ulluriaq, ullugiak, ammalivatsiaq
sky - qixak, qilaq, qilak, ullurialijaaqtuq (starry sky)
Aurora Borealis - arsarnirit, aqsarniit, aqhaq, kiubuyat
bear - atiqpuq, tukturjuk (great bear), nanuq (polar bear)
old man - afugaatchiaq, afayuqaksraq, inniqhaq, utuqqaq

2. Icelandic:
star - stjarna
sky - lopt, himinn (heaven)
Aurora Borealis - norðr-ljós, norðurljós, segulljós, heimskautaljós,
bear - bjarn, bjärndýr, björn
old man - karl, elli-karl, gamal-menni

3. Finnish:
star - tähti, päähenkilö
sky - taivas, tähtitaivas (starry sky)
Aurora Borealis - revontulet, revontuli, aamurusko (aurora)
bear - karhu, jääkarhu (polar bear)
old man - ukko, vanhus, äijä, isäukko

Icelandic seems like a very germanic language, so perhaps we should rule that one out.

A couple possible extrapolations:

tähtikarhu (star-bear, Finnish)
tähtikarhukko (old star-bear-man, Finnish)
ulluriatiqpuq (star-bear, eskimo)
aqhaquq (aurora bear - eskimo)

I think some of those would be fine, if they were only simplified for tender English speaking ears.
Atipuk and Akhukuk seem like fairly good interpretations of the Eskimo words that wouldn't turn everyone into feeling like an ESL* student. Ahkunuk seems even better. Stjarna and Bjorn look good if you want to risk all the people who can say those words properly laughing at those us who can't help but mess them up with a drawl.

*That's Eskimo as a Second Language in this case :D
