Marlon James. Relatively new author on the scene, but has won several awards. He's a POC, which is a rarity in fantasy, and doesn't set his stories in faux-Europe like everyone else.
Has anyone read Black Leopard Red Wolf? It's been compared to Game of Thrones and is said to have a world more immersive than Lord of the Rings. I wonder why it's so hard to find anyone who's read it.
Hey there! I've been away for a bit. Love the new site!

Thanks!
I just finished The Last Dance, by Martin Shoemaker. It was a fairly fun read about the captain of a ship that goes back and forth between Earth and Mars. The trip to Mars and back has been made more cost effective by utilizing this ship that basically slingshots around Earth then around Mars...
This sounds like a Persuasion skill based on Str rather than Cha?
I hope to check in more frequently - as my kids get a little bit older, I'm hoping to find time for more gaming. I need to decide what to run next, too.
Fifteen years ago, I read this thread and was struck by its awesomeness. This year, I GMed my five year old daughter for the first time.
Though I can't claim to be as creative as Rel (there are more child friendly aids nowadays - my thanks to No Thank You Evil).
This.
I've definitely run into this: as a GM, I get ideas for characters I will rarely/never have an opportunity to actually play. So when the rare playing opportunity comes up, choosing between the various compiled ideas is tough.
Playing an NPC just isn't the same, y'know?
