A Proud Warrior Race type inspired by (TOS) Klingons rather than Tolkien, and/or using Vulcans instead of Elves.
Perhaps a cartomancer. I don't recall any major 70s things that involved tarot and were as widespread as kung fu cinema, but turning cards into magic would make sense.
Some kind of hippie-inspired class using magic adjacent to/riffing off of Wiccan practices, as Wicca was a major news topic in the 70s. This one has the "benefit" that it would be even more anachronistic than Monk, due to Wicca being a fully modern invention inspired by ancient pagan religions, not an ancient tradition itself.
