D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Yes. Everyone told you that. So: "told you so".

D&D 5E Homebrew: How to modify Shield spell?

The way Shield works in 5e is one of the things I like about the edition. The short time pre-buff of earlier editions was such a chore to track that the spell was rarely used. And the 5e spell is far more cinematic. It would be the last thing I would change about 5e.

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

Some humans are murderous unthinking thugs, and some wolves are clever and careful. It’s your story you can play them how you like. However, Ravenloft is a realm of raw emotion, not logic. Do you really want to run a Ravenloft game, or generic dark fantasy horror? And no matter how clever the...

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

The Styles is just down the coast from Innsmouth isn’t it? I would say it’s easier to find a good adventure and make it Ravenloft than to find a good Ravenloft adventure!

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

Yes, definitely use non-Ravenloft adventures, D&D or otherwise. It’s just a matter of focusing the horror elements (most things can be horrific if looked at in a certain way). It’s probably better than using the railroady 2nd edition modules. Sometimes a bit of tweaking. For example, I ran The...

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

Yeah, replacing the shambling mound with something more interesting but less deadly is a good move. I would probably ditch the bit at the end where the doors try to eat the party too. This finished off my lot, and a most unsatisfactory ending it is!

Vecna: Eve of Ruin Adventure -- An “Off the Rails” Adventure for D&D's Anniversary

The version of Tasha in this adventure is stated as chaotic neutral, but there no reason you shouldn't adjust her to fit your concept.

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

Its boring, then deadly! It's a big house, and their isn't that much of interest to find in the early part. And what there is is predictable rather than disturbing. That sort of thing is much better when there are plenty of eccentric NPCs to interact with. Reach for the Stars in Keys from the...

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

I've run Death House and House of Lament (VGR, it's a remake). Death House is terrible, and House of Lament is mediocre. It's mostly an excuse to plug the spirit board. Who owns Ouija? Oh, it's Hasbro, what a coincidence!

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

The issue with it is it's very difficult to run (even by Ravenloft standards). But, as the 2nd adventure, it had a key role in establishing the setting. If you read that it will make understanding what the writers where trying to achieve in the later adventures a lot easier. And some later...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

NB, the Androids of Tara was based on The Prisoner of Zenda. If doing it in D&D it would probably be easier to drop the android and go with the original plot hook: one of the PCs is a double of the kidnapped heir. One lesson I learned from Doctor Who was to plagiarise unashamedly!

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

It was Douglas Adams who suggested making one of the segments a person.

D&D General Hasbro Is Looking For Partners For Baldur's Gate 4

I think one of Larian's most remarkable achievements was they actually managed to make Faerun interesting.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

I did convert and run The Stones of Blood as a 5e adventure (the ship became a gith astral ship) and The Power of Kroll to Star Wars D6.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

In the structurally very similar Doctor Who: Key to Time arc, whilst the Doctor, acting for the White Guardian, searches for the segments in order, the agent of the black guardian locates the final segment and waits for the Doctor to turn up with the other five. Also, the Black Guardian...

Hammer filmed on a sound stage (usually) because they had a much lower budget than Universal!

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

Frankly, a Ravenloft game is going to be more difficult to DM than Generic Fantasyland, no matter what approach you take.

D&D General The thread where I review a ton of Ravenloft modules

The idea that time should flow the same across multiple planes of existence makes no sense. It’s contrary to the fiction, mythology and science.
