D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I'll say my hot take again If Infusions were core, Ranger would be better as an infusion class than a half caster. Manh iconic ranger spells are reflavored magic equipment. Healing herbs Healing potions Antidotes Snares Spikes Flaming arrows Serrated arrows Modified quivers Ghillie Suits...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Now its Harengon Manhandled. I'm more afraid WOTC does nothing and throws new and inexperienced DMs to the wolves unaided.... ..Again

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

It would happen in Theros Strixhaven, No. And Yes. Depends. Because it's a magic based setting for caster. Well this question will answer my concerns. Fans with Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos, how does the book handle and explain playing a class without magic?

D&D 5E Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

The answer is WOTC would never print a full powered full scaling maneuver system again after 4e.

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

I said it being old and not updated meaned it its too out of date to teach the modern interpretation of the game. Unless the Modernize Greyhawk. Which is a Dice roll of WOTC does. They didn't put effort in the 2014 DMG. They admitted it was rushed. I am entirely justified to not give them the...

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Oh the dream. The ranger who nonmagical crafts gear then uses magic to summon their poisoned trick arrows, camo suits, traps, and tamed beasts from home. That's the bastion system I wantt WOTC.

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Player Agency and DM agency conflict A human can point to the GH map and say "I'm from here. I known the history of this nation and have contacts here* A Dragonborn doing the same invokes a Player Agency dilemma. They are creating a nation and people. For some groups that's a easy fix. Not...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Nah What I am saying is that a player will make a Dragonborn in Greyhawk and have characters that are not tied and have bonds to the setting. And there are drawbacks to that.

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Rangers don't need spells if skills had defined reliable effects. But there's never been a majority of D&D fans who would agree to that.

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

What a starting needs is what the players want. What a setting in the Dungeon Masters Guide should have is a Guide for Dungeon Masters in settings. Which is both creating and running a setting. Not just the latter.

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Rangers in D&D have magic because D&D doesn't have a skill system with defined effects. Rangers can't put on ghillie suits, snare trap the orc vanguard, run before the main warband notices, then heal up after battle without SPELLS.

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Again I am not saying WOTC can't do anything right. I am saying that for WOTC and the past D&D IP holder never held it as a priority. And the 2014. DMG is proof of it. The designers at WOTC could probably do an excellent job at it. But a large swath of the community, which includes many...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Not connecting to the lore. Connection to the setting. Playing a class or race and it doesn't mean anything. You make a Dragonborn monk and You never meet any Dragonborn You never meet any monks You never fight other Dragonborn or Monks You never find any Dragonborn Magic Items You never...

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

The Rogue Scout sucks at doing actual rangery stuff.

D&D 5E Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

No class is necessary. Robin hood is a fighter/rogue The Rangers class is a high fantasy high magic representation of the Rangers of Dunedin or the Nights Watch. They fight the monsters of the wild to keep the medieval kingdoms safe from the monsters and raiders of the wilderness.

    D&D (2024) 75 Feats -- not nearly enough

The point is some are saying that we don't need any mechanical differentiation within a class.

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

I'm not even saying there won't be good orcs in the DMG's Greyhawk. My prediction is that WOTC is going to create a ultra generic setting and paint Greyhawk names over the people, gods, nations, and features there for nostalgia bait. Whereas displaying how you create a new setting from scratch...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Player characters tend to need more framing and bonds to the setting than random monsters. They are going to be in every session and who that are in the setting matters a lot more than a random 4 armed blue gorilla that is killed in a fight. In shocked that so many people are saying "Nah. It'll...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

It's a setting problem if the setting goes out it's way to give the Players no link to it and have no bonds and ideals within the structure of the setting their own self. It's a set up to make the DM's job harder. The same way the 2014 DMG's abysmal organization (which WOTC admits) sets up the...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Literally in the game sense. No links to the setting and being seen as weird fresks in universe is a speed running to "violent murderhobos sick of disrespect"
