D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

It's going to be amusing in the probable event of the DMG coverage of the setting being so bare-bones that it renders all the arguments in this thread moot. Other than those who will still insist that if the DMG didn't explicitly forbid the things they want forbidden, it's still all wrong.
I mean, the people who are upset want a Greyhawk that removes material from the core books...which won't ever happen.

Minigiant keeps presenting this like, if the DMG doesn't do all this extra work, all these DMs will take the Greyhawk example from the DMG, and ban multiple classes and races from the PHB because the DMG didn't explain how these things now exist in Greyhawk when they didn't before.

Nah

What I am saying is that a player will make a Dragonborn in Greyhawk and have characters that are not tied and have bonds to the setting. And there are drawbacks to that.

Honestly, just treat a warforged as a sentient type of lesser golem, which is essentially what they already are.

That lets them theoretically exist anywhere that has (or once had, at least) wizards/artificers/etc. capable of creating golems and you can make them as one-of-a-kind or as mass-produced as you like.
In a general, PH sense that would be just fine. The name is still a problem though, because it assumes something fairly important about history; namely, that every setting using them had a war in which manufactured life was created and used. A great story (like I said I love robots), but not one every setting should have to include.

You are arriving with the presupposition that, without having read this chapter, Greyhawk cannot survive its publishing. It does feel like unwarranted hyperbole to me. I will withhold judgement until I have a copy before me.

Could you provide an example how you would “respectfully, thoughtfully” add 2024 PHB content to Greyhawk?
Sure, come up with a cool way to introduce Dragonborn... they could be from a lost valley, or uncharted land where a ship has gone astray and landed. Any way to introduce a new entity into the setting without breaking the world. As others have noted the setting is very forgiving to funky and weird. It doesn't have to be DB were always in every town and every place because we say so. Some thought could be put into it and make it dare I say, cool... or if you don't like DB or whatever avoidable in your home game. But this seems to be too extreme of a though process, because it holds some preservation and respect for the original setting, and I am learning that is thought of as a bad thing for reasons.

If a lot of people like things you don't, what you like gets pushed out and becomes harder to find, especially if it's a social activity
That’s not the problem of those people. It’s no excuse for attacking them.
I need to either get with the times or shut up because it's not ok to be publically dissatisfied with the current take on a subject, which is tantamount to telling me I'm not allowed to express an opinion outside of the majority.
There are ways of expressing that disaffection whilst being happy for the people who like the current take. And you are more likely to win people over wish positivity than negativity.

And you say you like Level Up. So it’s not as if you are completely alone and no one is making stuff you like. Why care what WotC are doing? I’m not planning and rushing out and buying the new rulebooks, old rules, new rules, it’s not important to me (and I always thought World of Greyhawk was garbage). I just hope the new DMG does a better job of encouraging people to become DMs, increasing my chance of some time off.

It's one of the reasons I'm honestly baffled they weren't included in Monsters of the Multiverse with the changeling and shifter...

Kalashtar are firmed hooked into Eberron lore in a way that's hard to disentangle, but for all their Eberron-specific flavoring, the core idea of what warforged are is remarkably setting neutral.
I'm telling you it's the name.

I care about setting integrity in general (its a soapbox of mine), and many settings I care about are owned by WotC and only they get to decide what to do with them. As I said above, I don't really care about Greyhawk personally, but the principle is the same and I do care about that.

And again, saying I don't like a stance that a lot of people do like is NOT the same as attacking said people. I suppose to make you happy I should omit the fact that anyone holds any particular opinion at all, and pretend this is all in a vacuum to avoid the possibility of offending you on their behalf. In the future I will endeavor to do just that.

Thank you for showing me what you think the public thinks of my remarks.
