I watched this with my wife during her pregnancy; she's fifteen years younger than I and had never seen it. I was worried it wasn't going to hold up; after all, the protagonist spends most of the movie trying to "win back" the girl of his dreams after she dumps him. In a lot of old movie rewatches, those plotlines come off cringey as hell, if not downright creepy.
The movie held up. The movie makes clear both that the protagonist's infatuation is unhealthy, and that is a doomed quest-- he's better off without her. The movie still works.
