Day 96 - a sanctuary?

After finding another statue, we found a small and lively square. We don't enter it or come into contact with the inhabitants of the ruins. They make a peaceful impression, but the mine supervisor and his servant didn't look like devil worshippers either ...

This trying to improve me shading with colors. On the computer it would be quite easy. Doing it by hand with brush-pens I have to figure out where tonuse which colored Brush.
Also coloring the whole ground? Ufff ... is there a Fillbrush? ^^

Everything's Fine
Week 14, if my calculations are correct (ends on April 8th).

I hadn’t done any work on this the past 2 days, but electrician was here and power was out earlier, so I decided to not only take care of Wed, Thu and today’s but also tomorrow and finish off the week

Another branch, this one also connected to my week 12 hex Ymyl Clwdwn. It’s got 2 sub-hexes going up the branch

The first hex is Isherloku, an arid mountainous region with mostly shrubby vegetation - I think like the mountains of some parts of California, covered in manzanita bushes. There are 4 towns across Isherloku, populated by Old Ones (magical 7' tall lizard folk) and changelings. The towns are in shallow cave complexes just below the hot surface, and each town’s Old One clan has a magical specialty. The Old Ones look at the changelings as not much more than minions; while the changelings feel like they are taking advantage of the Old Ones. Below the mountains is a giant underground sea, which only recently have some enterprising changelings found. May change the balance of power in the hex. The Old Ones trade with Ymyl and also with the denizens of the next hex up.

The upper hex in the branch is Slabani, a hex that is entirely water, except that it has giant mangrove trees throughout. I’ve included the inspiration image. Slabani has two mammalian species, both sentient - harengon and satyrs. They form rough “teams” of hunter gatherers that work together as mated groups for 6 months at a time. Every sem-year there is a big celebration, which is when group members can leave a team and try another team for whatever reason. Probably a lot of drama at that time. All other creatures in this hex are arthropodian in some way. They are mostly spawned from the Blood Queen, a giant ankheg queen parked up at the tip of the hex, breeding and brooding all sorts of insects and crabs and spiders etc. There’s an underground river that no one knows about that leads down to the underground sea in Isherloku. Somehow, the water comes back up here in a cycle…

Questions about this week
  1. Is there rivalry between Old One factions? If yes, is that why there’s no rain? (magical war in the past?)
  2. What are the changelings up to?
  3. Is the Blood Queen planning expansion? What if the arthropods start to be more than just beasts driven by instince?
  4. In case of danger to the whole hex, who of the Slabani will stand up and lead?

“It’s probably Matt Mercer’s fault.”
I'm going to start posting in whole levels, instead of room-by-room, and also will be abbreviating notes. It's just too much to stay fully on top of this.

4.15-17.jpg

  • 4.5 Throne Room/Banquet Hall
    • A bunch of drunk goblins, and the goblin king. Suspicious of intruders, but not necessarily hostile.
    • Goblin king has a signet ring that is of dwarven make

  • 4.7 Private Reception Room
  • 4.8 Privvy
  • 4.9 Bedroom

    • The Dwarven King was quite sartorial
  • 4.12 Secret Passage
    • The goblins have not discovered this
    • The statue animates and attacks, unless somebody is wearing the signet ring the goblin king has

Yeah, I'm increasingly finding that I'm doing rooms in bursts of a few at a time, rather than daily. I'm trying to stick to weekly posts to maintain some kind of discipline (otherwise I know I'll forget completely). I think you've just got to go with whatever system works for you personally.

As someone who likes brevity, I think your slabs of rooms with bullet points work fine.

Oh, and here's my first week for the month:

1: Wound in the Earth
  • An indescribable smell. Air thick with gloom, flies and rot.
  • The ground is sticky black earth heaped with bones, paving stones, broken statues, roof tiles, broken weapons, tufts of hair or fur, and potshards. A widening chasm reaches 90’ up to the open sky. Gnarled bushes with purple leaves clutch the walls.
  • This is the base of the midden on L1.
  • Two rough, shallow sets of stairs are bored from stone and earth:
  • one descends slightly, to somewhere damp. One ascends, littered with broken trinkets.

Region: Toxic Sump
(!) Radiation sickness (start a clock), centred on the Headless Judge.

2: Radiating Mire
  • Descends from the wound in the earth.
  • A narrow earth tunnel. Ankle-high water glows phosphorescent blue the dark. Clusters of strange plants and fungi burst from the floor and walls.
  • (!) The far exit is blocked by a cluster of explosive bluefruit.
  • (!) Do not, under any circumstances, drink the water.

3: Hall of Gods
  • A vast stone room with phosphorescent puddles. Rows of statues of every size are stacked at every angle.
  • (?) If you worship a god, you can probably find it here.

4: Drowned Ghoul Lair
  • (!) Bloated husks of men, curled foetal against the walls, filthy water at their ankles. They rise hungry if disturbed.

5: Colossus Boardwalk
  • A maze of rickety wooden scaffolding, chained to headless stone colossi.
  • (?) The colossus sump is 100’ below. The water glows faintly.

6: Colossus Sump
  • Phosphorescent blue water, opaque and 30’ deep (up to the knees of the giants?).

7: Headless Judge
  • This colossus has a break in its chest. Inhuman viscera throb within. One hand holds a colossal executioner’s sword.
  • (!) The colossus sleeps, but intruders will be punished if it is woken.

I know that If I don't weekly and not daily, I will loose it.
Oh, it is not so bad to stop a day. I'll just write tomorrow. Oh a second daynof rest will be fine, I knownI can catch up ...
And suddenly I will be a month behind.
I need to do it daily ^^ or it will end up like my gymmembership 😅

So here it is for today:

Same

There are no rules

Getting to the finish line will be different for everyone
In other words, you're finished when you're finished

So far, I have not resented nor felt angry about #d23. Every time I get to work on it, it feels like a gift I'm giving to myself. Sometimes it's not exactly the gift I want though 😂

I love hearing about people's process almost as much as I like seeing folks' posts - maybe more!
