[Hexmap] Britannia 3E map-of-the-week

For certain values of "week", anyway. :)

The King's Highway between Paws and Britain, scale 4 miles/hex. The names of the hamlets/villages in between:

Tallarn
Wicht
Velenne
Morusstown

So I'm unoriginal. Sue me. :)

This is the reduced version to fit under the 100K attachment limit. The full-sized map (273K) can be found on my D&D page: http://www.zipworld.com.au/~hong/dnd/britannia/britmap4.jpg

Considering the world in question seems to get resculpted with every itteration of the game, what "edition" of Brittania is this?

The game world is set at the start of Ultima 4, but the map I'm using is sorta like a combination of U4 and U5. I include elements like the lighthouses and some of the extra islands from U5 (a bit hard to explain how they suddenly popped up out of nowhere), but the general terrain is from U4. I'm not planning on using the desert they introduced in U5, for example.

There seems to be absolutely no info on how big Britannia actually is. I've arbitrarily set it to be roughly 1,000 x 1,000 miles, which translates to roughly 4 miles per square (or hex).

No, I tell a lie. In Ultima 9 you can walk from one end of the continent to the other in less than an hour, which means it must be only a couple of miles across. I'm just going to ignore that. ;)

Strange...

My take on it has always been that Britannia was actualy a fairly small place... about the size of England/Scotland... Based on the fact that there is only one noteable mountain range, and and few inland water sources or rivers.

Plus it never seemed like a terribly VAST place.

You could run it that way too. The nice thing is that the old games were abstract enough that either case (big continent, small island) is possible. I guess I just prefer the feel of a relatively large place, since it gives me more elbow room to slot in encounters and adventures anywhere I like, without having to worry too much about overcrowding.

Britannia is a state of mind.
