*Anton shoots an arrow at a hobgoblin, dealing a glancing blow to that barely has enough force to make it through the armour, dealing minor damage at best.*

*Somac's giant bowshot impales the hobgoblin injured by Cade right through the head and the helmet as well, spraying gore across the ground as the goblinoid falls lifeless to the ground, his ready spear no use to him against an arrow.*

*The other beast snarls and beats at one of the hobgoblins, gutting the humanoid and bringing the number of hobgoblins down to 6.*

*Scun casts his spell and advances 25 feet, putting him in range to reach anyone except Tandi and Cade with his new 50 foot movement allowance.*

*One of the hobgoblins shouts, in Goblin:*
[SBLOCK]
"There's too many of them now, and the orcs will be here any moment. All chance of victory has been lost thanks to these idiots--since we can't fight them at range while we flank and contain the beasts, the only option is to retreat and leave the fools here to die when the orcs arrive."
[/SBLOCK]

*At this point, four of the remaining six hobgoblins, including the speaker, disengage from the fight*
(OOC:
Anton does 2 damage
Somac does 12 damage
Approximate drawing attached but not to scale very well)

Hanging in there. Better than the alternative.

OOC: From this part of the line - but the mighty beast simply ignores.*
... Well, whole line was "cutting into the creature's tough sinewy hide, spraying a gout of blood, but the mighty beast simply ignore." Sounds like the arrow hurt to me, but I read the ignore bit as the beast having other things to worry about.

I think if we had had a bit more time before being thrust into combat to talk, we could have been more unified. The PbP thing kind of hurt us. Personaly, I'm all for extracting the girl and making a run for it, but just trying to clear a way first.
I can agree with that.

Rys, I clarified my action at the last minute...[/sblock]

(OOC: Saw the clarification, but all the ones that would make room were on the wrong side of the render to hit. No worries, though, since they both bolted, leaving her with a path free of all but the two renders. And for what its worth, I agree with both readings of my flavour text on the Somac->Render attack, and think that the way each of the characters selectively picked the part that supported their beliefs was good roleplaying :))

*Tandi tumbles past the two monsters by the skin of her teeth, reaching the little girl and trying to pick her up.*

"No! Doggie!" the girl protests, struggling against the unfamiliar black-haired woman and crying out in distress, but though she tries to break free, Tandi manages to grab the child anyway, seeking to guide the little one out of danger. As this occurs, one of the two gray renders (the one in the back) roars in anger and turns to face Tandi menacingly, preparing a vicious bite and two murderous claws for the blue-eyed monk.

*Meanwhile Dagummit plods forward, close enough to attack next turn.*

(OOC:
Tandi lucks out with rolls of 14 and 19 on Tumble
Tandi's roll of 11 beats the girl's roll of 13 thanks to grapple modifiers
Cade's turn now.)

Bront

The man with the probe
"Tandi, let the girl go, maybe it's trying to protect her!" Cade cries

Cade charges a hobgoblin near tandy, hoping to end up near here to try to help with the girl or the grey thing as needed

Cade calls out in goblin [sblock]"What do you want with this girl?"[/sblock]

OOC JDVN1:[sblock]Obviously we need to improve our comunication, especialy in an 8 person PbP I'm sure we'll be fine as soon as we learn what everyone's strengths and weaknesses are, especialy since some of the characters know eachother from a previous adventure. Experience will build teamwork hopefully.[/sblock]

Something clicked in Tandi's mind as the big gray thing turned in her direction.

He was right, the big gray things were ignoring the girl and attacking the hobgoblins. Pulling back away from them, she sets the girl down. "Are these your pets?" Tandi asks, somewhat apprehensively. She couldn't believe a child would have any control over something so big and ferocious.

*Cade charges past the hobgoblin to the left, heading towards Tandi, and the beast that is looming towards Tandi menacingly, although it could have theoretically taken a swipe at him, chooses not to do so. The lance pierces the hobgoblins chest, causing it to gasp in pain as a heavy stream of blood begins to spill, as Cade almost-comically asks his question mid-charge.*

*Nonetheless, the hobgoblin gasps in pain and responds in Goblin:*
[SBLOCK]
"Girl? We don't care about the girl, you half-wit (Note: the word in goblin is a racial slur pun against halflings). We were hired to kill the orcs and the beast, but its your mess now, you backstabbing dirty little whoreson bastard."
[/SBLOCK]

(OOC:
Cade hits for 12 Damage.
Tandi will have to wait until next round to drop the girl and take her actions (if she's still alive :uhoh:
Anyways, Rillian's turn now)

First Post
Rillian will Ready with the trigger that either Render starts to attack either us or the girl. He will attack the nearest Render, either with a 5' move and attack (flanking if possible), or if it has moved with a single move charge.

A'jardin is hesitant to attack, but gets ready to do so if Tandi is attacked by one of the large beasts. So, anyone speak whatever it is the big grey things speak?

OOC:Ready to cast Magic Missile on the Grey Render that Somac hit earlier if either render attacks a party member.

Rystil Arden

First Post
*Rillian prepares to attack the nearest render, his sword shaking slightly in his arm in anticipation, ready to strike at a moment's notice.*

*The remaining two hobgoblins retreat away from the area, leaving Tandi and the girl alone with the two giant beasts.*

*The beast that has prepared to rip Tandi in twain roars in rage and then leans forward as if to strike her, but suddenly it stops. It looks down on the blue-eyed Sairundani woman and then at the little blue-eyed girl she clutches protectively in her arms, back and forth between the two and it seems indecisive, unable to decide what to do.*

*Meanwhile A'jardin prepares a Magic Missile and aims it directly at the other render, which turns about, confused that it had lost all of its hobgoblin prey, until its gaze settles hungrily on the monk and the little girl.*

*With a drooling snarl, the hungry monster unlocks its jaws and prepares to tear the girls apart with a vicious bite, when suddenly, the other indecisive grey beast makes a decision, its eyes opening wide as it gives a sheltering hug over top of the two girls, interposing its muscular body between them and the other monster's attacks and paying dearly for its choice, as the attacking monster ignores both Rillian's impotent sword thrust, which deflects off its hide, and the tiny pain of A'jardin's mote of force, ripping terrible and massive wounds into the defending creature's body with its sharp teeth and claws, rending and tearing its flesh even after the initial attack.*

"Doggiiiiieee!!!" the little girl cries out in horror.

(OOC:
*Tandi does not get an AoO against the defending render because she is in a grapple, not that she would want to take it anyways
*The defending render gives the little humans 90% cover by interposing itself
*Rillian misses his AoO
*A'jardin Magic Missile hits for 3 damage, for a total of 15 dealt to the thing by the PCs (hobgoblin damage to it is unknown)
*Attacking Render deals 51 damage to defending render...umm ouch!
*Anton's turn now, followed by Somac and Scun)
