    Group Dinner - Saturday Night

Unfortunately, RL has made it necessary to miss this awesome-sounding event. Please take me off the list and give my seat to a latecomer. Have fun everyone! :) J

    DC Gameday VII -- October 9th and 10th, 2010

Tarondor, you're in the right forum - it all gets decided here. :) J

Help with my Human Red Dragon Sorcerer

I'd suggest Alertness and Combat Casting for your feats. Your low WIS leaves you vulnerable to a tricky rogue type, and if you're going to be anywhere close to melee combat, you'll want that Concentration check bonus from Combat Casting. And I'll second the DEX-INT swap idea. Let us know how...

Whatcha gonna run? Whatcha wanna play?

I'd love to play ICONS, and I am planning to run a DC Adventures game. I haven't decided on a premise yet, though. I'm torn between a League-for-a-day style Teen Titans/Young Justice romp through an out-of-control JLA watchtower, or a Halloween-themed Gotham Knights adventure. If anyone's...

    Do you pull the chain?

Yes. Of course I pull it. I want adventure. If you're not going to do stuff like pulling the chain, then just stay home and milk the cows or whatever you did before strapping on that sword... I'll just point out that the two questions are very different, i.e. I'm not sure that it's a good...

    D&D 3.5 - Looking for good non-dungeoncrawling adventures

Red Hand of Doom. It has hardly any dungeon crawls in it. It's one of the best event-driven modules I've ever run. My group is loving it. As a bonus, all of the monsters and villains in it are based on released D&D miniatures, so if you have a collection (and I do!) it's a blast to lay out...

    What is OSR about?

That game comes up so rarely that I have to express my love for it: [i]Flashing Blades[i] is an incredibly fun game. I find myself tweaking combat rules in nearly every other system to get that same move/countermove feel that [i]Flashing Blades[i] has in it's melee combat system. /hijack. :) J

TIPS Sought for Sustainable Sci-Fi (not Star Wars) Gaming

Yes! Drake's series is very good. He wrote a similar book for Tor that would make a great SF game adventure: The Forlorn Hope Azgulor, I always found the mercenary company to be a good framework for sci-fi. It can be run with a titular head, but tends to be more democratic in the long term...

    Cloverfield

I frickin LOVED this movie. The point-of-view (not "realism" - it's a monster movie for pete's sake!) is great; I don't get motion sickness, although I feel for those who do... I like stories that aren't afraid to just be. We get too much of the wrapped-up-in-a-bow-and-fully-explained that it...

Beowulf: A Before and After Movie

OP: I think the movie you're looking for is called Monster House. It was filmed using the exact techniques used in Beowulf (motion capture actors' performances, and fully 3D presentation), only it was made a couple of years ago. Otherwise, I agree with all of your assesments on the...

    EN World World Cup blog

Rant warning! I love football/soccer/whatever you call that game where you can't touch the ball with your hands. I learned to play while my Dad was stationed in Germany, and played consistently for over ten years. My first exposure to the World Cup was while we lived in Germany, the 78 cup...

Is Gen Con worth the money?

Short answer: Every.Frikkin'.Penny. Long answer: The con itself isn't that expensive, especially when compared to other multi-day events like rock festivals. All the other stuff - lodging, food, etc. - are normal vacation expenses, and frankly, vacationing in Indy is a bargain. :) J
