D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

My condolences. I can't take DJs or commercials, so Serius XM is well worth the cost.

No More Massive Tomes of Rules

Sure, so those two things are going to be covered by 95% of hypothetical game systems. But if you are playing a ER medical drama RPG, chances are there isn't going to be a detailed system for climbing and sneaking or swimming. But RPGs being RPGs and players being players, there is a nonzero...

    D&D (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

I just want some non-sterotypical non humans. Show me a halfling barbarian and a tiefling monk and an assimar warlock and a dragonborn bard.

It is weird that people think noobs won't walk in to a game store and see that and be like "Cool! I want it!"

Yeah, and you aren't going to get too many unexpected intrusions of non-genre appropriate music on XM stations.

No More Massive Tomes of Rules

If you expect to climb, swim or sneak, those things will be covered by the rules. If that isn't part of the expected play activities, making a Fitness check (or whatever) should be sufficient.

Related to doing the 5E SRD in 100 pages: I think they intentionally crippled the SRD PDF so it is a giant PITA to get the text out. I was going to do an example with the Dwarf race entry and every word was on its own line after cut and paste

    D&D (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Alternate Art Cover Reveal

I'm not saying you can't run a cozy game with D&D if you understand what D&D is and does and you have a clear vision of what you want to do. I'm just saying that someone who saw that book cover and bought it because that's the kind of fantasy they wanted to play would probably be disappointed by...

Black Flag Tales of the Valiant is out (in PDF)! What do people think?

That doesn't alleviate the GM's responsibility to set the parameters of play, including difficulty.

And often it has nothing to do with quality. Nothing is for everyone.

Black Flag Tales of the Valiant is out (in PDF)! What do people think?

Yes, it is a player facing narrative tool. Not me. I hate fudging as the GM. I avoid doing it under 99% circumstances. But again the DM sets the difficulty. The DM has no excuse for saying "5E is too easy."

Black Flag Tales of the Valiant is out (in PDF)! What do people think?

The thing about "5E is too easy" is that if you are the GM and you think that, it is a failure on your part. If you are a player and you think that, you need to enact some agency and head down another couple dungeon levels or off into the next tier wilderness. "Easy" is relative to the...

    D&D (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Alternate Art Cover Reveal

That is a stretch. Those things don't lay out a play activity, which is what we are talking about here.
