Critical Role Critical Role Launches Subscription Streaming and Member Service

Pretty much. Almost anything even slightly negative is voted into obscurity and/or deleted outright by the mods. Though there are the beginnings of cracks in this from the mods. They're allowing more questioning of the show of late. Maybe because they're not enjoying C3 as much themselves...

How happy are you with your table/group?

Long-time D&D group. Includes family, friends, and some of our kids. Satisfied. There’s an obvious generation gap in styles. The older players just get on with their turn while the younger ones try to meticulously describe all their actions, no matter how irrelevant. It’s almost like they take...

I’m a cynical Gen Xer, too. I didn’t watch CR for awhile and laughed at the idea of watching other people play D&D. Then I tried their Call of Cthulhu one shot. Then I tried episode one of C2. Then I was in. Looking back, it took surprisingly little to hook me.

What are you reading in 2024?

Finished Mushoku Tensei Vol 24. Two more to go. My predictions are coming true. Not the specific details, but some of the beats. Some great twists and surprises. My jaw legit hit the floor at one sentence. Not at the obvious one , but at the appropriate “oh, $&@#” one . I’m still absolutely...

It's worth noting that they seem to be uploading the edited down versions of the episodes to YouTube. It might be a taste to get people to check out Beacon or they might put the whole thing up for free. No idea.

How happy are you with your regular ruleset?

The regular, traditional game we play is D&D. We’ve played 5E for a decade. I’m not satisfied with it. Thankfully, we’re switching to a different fantasy system long term and will also be trying out different systems as one shots soon.

The only real differences seem to be the giveaways are gone and when major events drop, the CR staff and friends show up in chats to check on people…like they did a few episodes ago.

The CR subreddit is weird. It’s the most toxically positive place I’ve ever seen.

What are you reading in 2024?

I’m having a similar issue with spoilery chapter titles. If you want named chapter titles, great. But don’t spoil the twist of the chapter in the title. That’s a nice table of contents at the front of the book. Oh, I’ve glanced at the ToC and now I know every major twist in the book. That’s...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

I wish that was already a thing. At least from some of the luminaries we’ve already lost and some that cannot be long for this world.

Same. I post all kinds of typos and edit my posts when I notice them. You can edit posts for a reason. So why not?

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

“But without rules it would be no better than playing cops and robbers on the play ground. ‘I shot you!’ ‘No, you didn’t!’ and all that.” Yes, exactly. That’s why you need rules. You need rules to establish guidelines for the fiction and maybe some mechanics to resolve conflicts about what...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

A: “Doctor, it hurts when I do this.” B: “So don’t do that.” A: “But I like the pain.” B: “So what the hell are you complaining about?” A: “I like complaining, too.” B: “Get out.” A: “No.” B: “Why?” A: “I like being a contrarian, too.” Moral. Not everything is a fetish or a preference...
