I would replace classes with roles: meele, skill, support and control, that give standard abilities to make the character fufill their role, then allow players to pick abilities to make whatever character they want.
You literally pull parts of my posts not just out of the context of a whole post but aout of context of a single paragraph in order to build a strawman to knock over. Thank you proving to me discussing with you is utterly pointless, as you have no respect for people of differing opinion.
You used "story now", distinction without difference, you're literally trying to catch me on words because you lack a point to make. And after getting offended by supposed msiattribution of your words, you immediatelly pivot to build strawman of my arguments you can knowck over. I won't be...
Or something you experience late? Back when I was a comics fan I was told to be blinded by nostalgia for my childhood fave....from a comics I've only read year prior to the conversation and was not part of my childhood whatsoever. One of these strawman arguments that made me leave comic fandom.
Except that "story first" is not one of the categories in the 6 philosophies. You literally just pull out a new category out of your butt the moment the argument doesn't go your way, that's an equivalent of picking the goalpost and putting it on a plane to Ohio. This is a cowardly, childish way...
We did establish the article did extremely poor job at defining neotrad and basically turned it into an excuse to whine about "kids these days". It failed to diffirentiate it from "forge" games as well, which is for me where 3rd edition belongs. Hell, I even objected to the NAME the author...
False dichotomy. "Either simulation or gamism" completely removes roleplay. It's either "you're here for GM'S WORLD and GM'S story" r "you're here to roll dumb dice!". You completely deleted roleplay. And I'm not showing up to a game to roleplay an useless duck and be butt of other players'...
First of all, regarding the weakest Orc, when ever you're talking about the 5e or 3.5, you are wrong. In 5e you cannot willingly decrease a dump stat bellow 8, so weakest Orc has STR of 10, as much as Joe Commonner. In 3.5 you could decrease ability score to 3, yes. But in that game Orcs gain +4...
For someone who pretends to not see other people's style of play you sure write whole paragraphs trying to prove your preference is obiective fact and sure tend to be dismissive of people finding your behavior disrespectful, especially in comparison to how you reacted to being disrespected...
You do realize this is no true scotsman falalcy? Literally removing what many consider face of this style of playing because it doesn't fit your narrow definition. No wonder this is something you view in complete negative, but it does make me question point of arguing with you, as you are...
And here we have it, literally a false dichotomy. You have a situation where GM is telling their story and players must shut up and deal with it because they don't matter, and when people offer alternatives, your imagination fails you and you immediatelly assume that it must be just flip of the...
It's a game that is build on Forged in the Dark rules, with very strong emphasis about player decisions and agency and plot moving through success at a cost. Entire Forged in the Dark movement as a whole is the main thing people point at as neotrad, alongside its cousin, Powered by the...
So in other words, it's bad to change the story to fit the player character and the player's desire? What kind of backwards view of the game is this, where the game is there for the GM and players must be stopped from "messing it up"?
