I don't cause I can't tell at a glance that a 3e halfling is a halfling. I think they should have larger heads than humans.

I have seen several art pieces that show statues and carvings like that for the Mind Flayers. I agree they would not make it themselves, but that’s what they have thralls for.

The planes and cosmology are one of D&D’s unique things throwing them away would be dumb. And the DMG is still the place they should be talked about just later in the book.

That is explicitly the case Later editions just collapsed everyone into Humanoids.

By the Monster Manual the Dragon can also be given spells. A Chromatic Great Wyrm can know and cast 8 spells of up to 9th level. Which can all be of the same level by the rules

Great Wyrm's have stats in Fizbans. A Chromatic Great Wyrm is CR 27 and Mythic. I don't think a Level 13 party could beat one unless they got near supernaturally lucky.

Then you would be wrong as the various humanoids like Orcs, Goblins and others were stated in the original book as having a fairly notable presence in the city.
