I have never used hirelings, henchpeople, etc in any game I've run or played in, dating back to when I started in 1993. Even in the last few years when I've been primarily using Dungeon Crawl Classics, it's just not a thing that seems worth the headache, bookkeeping, or taking the focus off the PCs.

Not ever, as far as I know, and it's a damn shame. The world built around TunFaire is so much more interesting to me than that from the Black Company, from the way sorcery works to the really unusual species to the endless warning the Cantard.

I'm pretty sure I haven't played anything except Dungeon Crawl Classics in two years or so. It's not just the system, it's the approach of the game and the fantastic team that produces it.

I would love to see this comparison. I'm very much in the "I want shorter adventures I can string together, not a whole campaign" camp. But in practice I neither bought nor used the smaller adventures or anthologies when they were released, and I don't know anyone who did aside from collectors...
