Clean up the Character Thread

I propose (and volunteer if need be) that we clean out the character thread and move retired characters, or characters from players who have not logged in to the forums in over 3-6 months (I'm willing to hear suggestions on this), to a new Retired Character thread. Players who return and/or wish to unretire their character can simply repost it and let an admin know who can remove the character from the retired thread.

This would make it easier to go through the thread and find characters who are active and still playing. It could be done once a month, and after the first time, should be a fairly simple procedure.

Maybe you could just make that an "inactive character" thread. While lumping inactive and retired characters together, and allowing someone to "unretire" a character on a whim seems attractive, bear in mind that we have a 3-character limit. You have to permanently retire an old character to get a new one, so making the "retired" list flexible poses problems.

Wouldn't it just be easier to make a new character thread. That way the inactive/retired characters would stay in the old one, and the active ones would be stacked in on place.

I think the problem with that is that some people would leave without moving their character out of the new character thread, so that one would become a mess over time as well.

What you need is at least two (active and inactive), and maybe three (retired) character threads, someone with the authority to move posts between the threads, and some simple rules for which thread a character belongs in that everyone agrees to and understands.

Creating a new character thread had actually been planned, along with making the character sheet template required.

To inforce the new thread, I guess it would be easy enough to require the player to repost the character when leveling up the next time, as that is when he would have to be re-approved anyway.

Yes, it would likely require some temporary mod privilages if it was a move/delete, or simply have a mod/admin do it.

If it's simply creating a new thread, that would work as well, though the problem with reposting is that if you have 2 copies of the character, it could get confusing for others. You'd probably have to require a player to remove their character from the old thread when they post in the new one.

I think having someone maintain the thread is a better option, since people often leave without notice, so the new thread would eventualy have the same problem.

I do hope Guilt Puppy will be back; he's probably not in a hurry to get that particular character into a game, but I'm sure his turn will come. Sparky is still active in LEW; her other character, Rainca, is currently on an adventure. I've already explained the status of Jo Guilan.

Several of the ones you labelled "never used" I do recall seeing in play; they were probably abandoned in their first adventure. On the other hand, there are some others who never even got approved before their players quit. Poor Yurith...
