Character format: sblocks

... This is actually first started thread ever. So bear with me. 3\/4r. Okay, got that out of my system.

Anyway, I've noticed that in the character thread, there are lots of _really_ long characters with really long backgrounds or appearances and what not. Seems like a waste of space. Also:

Living Enworld Judge said:
World Building
Information in a characters BACKGROUND is considered PRIVATE unless the player of the character chooses to declare it PUBLIC by stating so.
Given these two pieces of information, my proposal is that character backgrounds (and possibly appearance and personality, but that's not as necessary) should be put in sblocks.

Edit: Or spoiler text or something. Same effect.

I know that my Fimbus has a particularly long BG. And nimisgod (character judge) actually gave that same suggestion. However, I wouldn't necesarily make it an ultimatum. Some chars have particularly short BGs. And some are completely public. I'd say, make it more of a "loosely enforced guideline" rather than a rule.

Well, the default for BGs is that they're private. If you don't say they're public they're assumed to be private. Making the information public is supposedly done in character too, but I don't think that's an ultimatum either.

Since private BGs are the default, maybe the character sheet could have the sblocks in them, but there could be a note somewhere maybe in the Guide or something that says you can take out the sblocks if you want your information to be public.

Why do you want to discourage people from reading character backgrounds? It is explicitly stated in the LEW players' guide that character background should be read, just not developed further by anyone execpt the creator unless designated as public. "Private" in this context does not mean "confidential".

I don't think it's a "don't read this" spoiler block. It's more of a "this takes up a bunch of space on the page" spoiler block. More aesthetics than anything else.

Well, it's both. I wonder if we could clarification from a judge on the PRIVATE thing, though.
