Put in wrong thread the first time lol

Would this be more of what your looking for as a sorcerer for Talin? If so I think we could swing it, as it is a good fit.

This version looks interesting. It is pretty close to the version from XGtE. There are somethings I like but hard to say wit having the book to look at. Only thing I really like is the ability to see through all magical and non-magical darkness. I'd really like to check out the spells.

I'll get the pdf as I may use this for evil wizards and warlocks in other games. I think this well be closer to an assassin the the undead style of the other path.

Not to many spells and in the video they talked about most.

Douse Light is a cool cantrip you could have in your pocket against creatures without darkvision. Gaining advantage on your attacks because your targets can't see seems like a sneaky way for Talin to get in some good sneak attack damage.

If your going melee, then the mirror image and blur ability will help in combat.

Up to you but I think the spells are what you were looking for thematically even though some may not be as powerful as others. Thing is you only get a few spells to start. You have Ice Knife and Shield listed now. You could take and trade the Ice Knife for Cloying Darkness - it doesn't do as much potential damage but it is a cool spell.

[sblock=Cloying Darkness]
1st-level necromancy
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: 1 round

You reach out with a hand of decaying shadows. Make a ranged spell attack. If it hits, the target takes 2d8 necrotic damage and must make a Constitution saving throw. If it fails, its visual organs are enveloped in shadow until the start of your next turn, causing it to treat all lighting as if it’s one step lower in intensity (it treats bright light as dim, dim light as darkness, and darkness as magical darkness).

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 1st.[/sblock]

I like the flavor of those spells. Can I use them even if I don't use the Origin? I'm still going back and forth on the Origin. I like features of both and need to decide which I like more. I am leaning towards the new Origin as it is more thematic to my character.

Yeah I think Talin being "one with the shadows" would fit the character.

I think you should go for the Shadow Bloodline as you will only be getting up to 10th lvl in the class. I think you will get more out of the RP for the abilities and spells, and you should still take Shadow Blade (2nd lvl) and Darkness to really give yourself the assassin feel.

So I think I will go with the new Origin. In the video they mentioned a spell similar to shield, can I see what it is? I will probably go with Douse Light in place of Minor Illusion and Cloying Darkness in place of Ice Knife.

As for Barakas having Disguise Self, I figured it might be useful since he is so distinctive. I’ve run into a lot of problems before that would have been fixed with a good Disguise Self spell. But if you want me to switch, I suppose I could find something else.

I think Barakas would be more flamboyant and want people to know he did this or it was he who went and did that. So far he seems more straight forward to solving a problem (brute force/elemental spells), than being sneaky or stealthy.

You need to really decide his combat vs utility prowess, you only get two sorcerer spells to start they could both be offensive, I liked the picture in my head of him swooping in and using Dragon Breath now and again. Also you can trade out spells at other levels have to think what is most useful at these lower levels.

Dragon breath would be great, it’s just a level 2 spell and he won’t get it until he’s level 5, when he gets to be a Cleric 2/Sorcerer 3. I’ll take a look, though, and see what I could change it for.
